Abstract

Chiefly correspondence and business records pertaining to George Stover's household and business activities including handwritten bills, receipts, accounts, contracts, cancelled checks, ledgers, wills, account books, notes, legal documents, statements, certificates, ephemera, map, cost estimates, work agreements, real estate transactions, promissory notes, deeds, and estate inventories. Also includes business records of George Strover and Company and his partnership with Alanson Sumner in Strover and Sumner (1831-1832); his work as an agent for Stephen Van Rensselaer, Jr., and Teunis Van Vechten; and his activities as administrator of the estates of William J. Cox, Horace B. Fletcher, Gilbert Purdy, and others. Topics include the Schuyler House, the Mohawk and Hudson Rail Road, the Saratoga and Schenectady Railroad, the Delaware and Hudson Canal, the Lawrence Street Bridge, and the purchase of stock in the Saratoga and Schenectady Railroad, the Schuylerville Bridge Company, and the Bald Mountain Union Store Association.
